Halloween decorations

Hubby kindly got the Halloween decorations from the loft this morning, so we got busy putting them up in the window and re-using some old ones to make new ones.
We went off to Lidl to get our £1 pumpkins, and stopped by at poundstretcher to get some extra bits. We bought a pumpkin carving kit for £1, (I have to admit I was dubious about the quality of the cutters in the shop but N wanted them).
This is how good the knife was after attempting to cut the top from the pumpkin......

Never mind we used a proper veg knife instead...... then spooned out the insides....

Once we had 'spooned' out to the best of our ability, which to be honest isn't very good at all, we started cutting out the faces....

Here are the finished pumpkins, mine is scary and N's is happy - what does that tell you!!!!!!!!

whoah where has October gone?

We have been so busy!!!
We went to watch Hairspray in Oxford, which was great. We all really enjoyed it. Pepper was at the dog sitters, so we were able to take it easy and go out for dinner afterwards. Needless to say we ate too much and it really shouldn't be allowed on hubby and I's diet.
Hubby is changing his car and so it was necessary to remove all of the print from his old one. Here is N and her dad using the hair dryer to ease the writing off......
N went for a 24hr sleepover with her friends, on a mission to make a spy movie.
Yesterday, after a lovely lunch in Woodstock- and some irresistible purchases in the quaint little town book shop, we went to Blenheim Palace to sample some of the Halloween activities they have at the moment. First stop rolling down the hill towards the lake (10 extra points for every bit of bird poo you roll in!!!)
Then off to ride the ghost train (sadly not very spooky when we were on it, although there were some very scary noises coming from it later on in the day). Next the Maze Of Bones - the kids had to find the bones hidden in the maze.

You can't visit Blenheim without stopping at the play area naturally.

Decorating Halloween biscuits (I was intending to do the pumpkin carving, but it was £6.95 per child and ahem - we can get pumpkins for £1 in Lidl you know). First you put on the blood red icing.........

Then you add the sprinkly bits.....

After a busy afternoon at the Palace we stop off in Woodstock centre to paint on the community art wall.... We used blood as it is Halloween soon!!!!!

In the evening M and E were over, after devouring a Chinese we thought it was a good idea to face paint - as you do!

Closely followed by Just Dance to work off all of the Chinese.

This morning N wanted to paint my face again, thankfully she talked me out of the vampirette I wanted and did some leaves and flowers. Lovely. Unfortunately nobody reminded me I still had it on before I went to Lidl to get some baguettes for lunch. M and E found it hilarious when I got back!! ha ha ha I'm plotting my revenge!!

Yippee its NSFW

Yeah!! Its National Schools Film Week, and finally us home educators get something free of charge! We went to watch Toy Story 3 at the cinema in Oxford today - which was great, I cried but frankly that goes without saying.

We have a very busy week, with two more trips into Oxford to come.

Hubby's parents were over for dinner last night, it was lovely to see them as we haven't seen them since N's birthday - almost 2 months ago! Pepper loves Grandad and its highly amusing to watch her making a fuss of him and falling asleep with her head in his lap.

My first October post

I can't believe this is my first post of October and we are already half way through the month. I suppose there are two reasons why I have not blogged; we have been very very busy and I have been watching the Vampire Diaries box set!
Here is a rough guide to what we have been doing;
starting early on the Xmas crafts (well there is so much to do if you are making presents!)

Visiting the Cotswold Wildlife Park

Science experiment to see how much air your lungs hold - we have done this experiment a lot! It is N's favourite. But it is interesting that my capacity has increased, maybe as a result of regular dog walking? As N is poorly at the moment hers has reduced.

Making bracelets

and much much more including:
Visiting Grandma twice in the Forest of Dean
Playing with friends
Playing lots of card games and board games
Drawing
Colouring
Reading lots of books
Writing stories
Reading Blogs
Tidying N's bedroom
Sorting out the garden
Watching DVDs (can't beat the sound of music)
and perhaps the major one - taking the chickens to N's godmothers to live, where they have lots and lots of grass to eat.
